ParaTracker: How to Test for ESP Power

Telepathy

To test for telepathy, have a friend shuffle a pack of Zener cards. Then synchronize watches, and at intervals of 30 seconds, let your friend
turn over the cards, concentrate on each face, record it, then place it face down. Meanwhile, write down the order of the cards as you
perceive them. Reshuffle the pack and repeat test four more times, for a total of 125 tries. Chance should give you close to 5 correct answers
for each run through the deck. A consistent scoring average of 6.5 cards over many hundreds of individual 25-card runs would put you in
much the same telepathic category as many of J.B. Rhine’s early successful test subjects.

Clairvoyance

To test for clairvoyance, place 20 marbles, five each of four different colors, in a bag. Then let a friend remove the marbles from the bag one at
a time, keeping each marble hidden from both of you. As each marble is removed, you guess its color and your friend records the guesses.
Only after each guess should the marble be looked at and its actual color recorded; then it should be returned to the bag. Continue the testing
procedure until 20 guessed have been made. Repeat the sequence four more times, for a total of 100 guesses in all. By chance, the expected
number or correct guesses is 25. But a very good score, at odds of approximately 1 in 100, would be 34.

Precognition

To test for precognition, let a friend remove the four aces from an ordinary pack of playing cards. Then, on a sheet of paper, write down the
order in which you feel the deck’s remaining 48 cards will fall after a thorough shuffling. Let your friend shuffle the pack. Then let the friend
turn the cards over one at a time and record the guesses. By chance you should expect to have one correct match. A score of two or more
matches reflects chance at about 1 in 4 a level not considered to be especially significant statistically. A score of four or more correct
matches becomes an intriguing precognition long shot of about 1 in 50.
