THE REAL X FILES
For the first time, the MoD reveals number of unexplained 'alien' sightings.. 97 last year OUT OF THIS WORLD EXCLUSIVE
By Lori Campbell And Sophie Borland Lori.Campbell@Sundaymirror.Co.Uk 05/08/2007

The truth is out there, so they say. But now it could be a lot closer to hand since Britain's real-life X-Files have been opened for the first time - spookily revealing details of HUNDREDS
of UFO sightings.

Last year alone the Ministry of Defence logged nearly 100 eyewitness reports of strange unidentified flying objects whizzing through our skies - and they're all listed.

The secret log - made public under the Freedom of Information Act - details UFO sightings that range from the laughable to the seriously baffling... flying saucers, orange fireballs
streakin across the atmosphere, a spinning silver pyramid and even an alien.

Utter tosh, some might say. But not the UFO experts, who are excited to finally have their hands on a log of sightings from as recently as last year. Normally, it takes 30 years for
classified records of UFO sightings to be released, by which time they have been long dismissed.

But now the experts can view files from 1998 to 2006 that give the date, time and location of the sightings as well as a short description. Among the list of unexplained phenomena
reported in the last 12 months was a "mothership with two smaller orbs" flying above Barlaston in Staffordshire, which was witnessed again five days later.

Then there was a weird oblong "shaped like a scooter" spotted in the sky above Stevenage, Beds. A huge "black square" was seen hanging from the clouds in St Tudwal's Islands,
Wales, while a "spinning object with triangular fins" was recorded above Macclesfield. And a "ball of fire like a comet without a tail" was reported hovering over Hardock, Merseyside.
But that may just have been Stevie G scoring for Liverpool.

The most bizarre sighting of the 97 received by the MoD in 2006 was "an alien" seen by two witnesses outside their kitchen window in Hastings, East Sussex. Other reports to the MoD
would appear easier to explain, such as a "triangle shape that had lights on that looked similar to a helicopter".

Perhaps the aliens were a little miffed at the reaction of Earthlings last year because in the previous year - 2005 - there had been 31 more sightings logged.

They included a "black cigar-shaped object that looked like a disc side-on", which sped through the sky "faster than a fighter jet", and an orange ball of light with "spiderish legs".

The MoD keeps the log of strange objects in the sky because of possible implications for national security. Officials analyse many of them in detail and while most have a rational
explanation, others have left them stumped.

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority said: "Sometimes UFOs are weather balloons, sometimes they are military jets, sometimes they are optical illusions... "But sometimes we
just don't know what they are."

Solved: The mystery of the 'Poe toaster' Aging historian claims to have created legend of the shadowy grave visitor
WILEY HALL

Associated Press - August 16, 2007 at 5:09 AM EDT

BALTIMORE — The legend was almost too good to be true. For decades, a mysterious figure dressed in black, his features cloaked by a wide-brimmed hat and scarf, crept into a Baltimore churchyard to
lay three roses and a bottle of cognac at the grave of Edgar Allan Poe.

Now, a man in his 90s who led the fight to preserve the historic site says the visitor was his creation. "We did it, myself and my tour guides," said Sam Porpora. "It was a promotional idea. We made it up,
never dreaming it would go worldwide."

Mr. Porpora is an energetic, dapper fellow in a newsboy cap and a checked suit with a bolo tie. He's got a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile, and he tells his tale in the rhythms of a natural-born
storyteller.

No one has ever claimed ownership of the legend. So why is he coming forward now?

'UFO' was a NASA Experiment
By Leslie Wood
Staff writer

GALLUP — The reflective object seen floating in the sky Thursday evening was not a UFO or even a weather device, but a high-altitude science balloon. The balloon was launched from Fort Sumner by
NASA’s Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility and passed through the Gallup area as the sun set on Thursday.

Some uncertainty surrounded the origin of the balloon, and many residents suspected the device was part of a project conducted by the Kirtland Air Force Base or the Sandia National Laboratory in
Albuquerque.

Some 20 concerned residents even contacted metropolitan dispatch to report the device they suspected might be a UFO; however, most reports indicated the object was a weather balloon.

But that’s not the case, according to Bill Stepp, manager of operations for the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. Stepp said the high-altitude science balloon was launched to research the surface of the
sun and how mechanisms on the sun affect temperatures on the earth. He said the sun research project is different from most of the facility’s projects that involve astrophysics, including gamma and
cosmic rays.

UFO crashes in Atlantic near new Jersey or a controlled experiment by the advanced extraterrestrial civilization?
George Klien  Sep. 3, 2007

It happened over the ocean off the Jersey Shore. The unidentified falling object was first seen at about 8:40 p.m. By people on Normandy Beach in Ocean County, and was also spotted as far away as Fire
Island and South Carolina.

The object had a glowing light around it. The next thing observers saw on a fireball falling on the ocean. Coast Guard cutters and helicopters were dispatched, but found nothing.  Some UFO analysts
believe it was not a crash but an controlled underwater experiment by the extraterrestrials.

The glow of light around the object is significant because it carries the signature of electromagnetic flux used by type III extraterrestrial UFOs for stealth, armor, navigation and propagation.
